Dragons' Den at Auchinleck
S3 pupils at Auchinleck Academy were pushed into the world of entrprise recently when they were involved in a re-enactment of the popular TV programme Dragons' Den.
Around 60 youngsters were faced with the somewhat daunting task of designing, creating and marketing a childrens' toy. Difficult enough, you might say?.Add to that, the materials provided were predominantly gleaned from household waste, with a smattering of craft adhesive and a clock ticking you now have a picture of the pressure in the building.
The teenagers, divided into groups of 6 or 7 were each allocated an adult mentor - volunteers from local services and industry. On the final whistle, the groups were called up to pitch their product on stage to the judging panel of "Dragons" These three were drawn from the Royal Air Force Careers' Office in Glasgow and Hope Homes Senior Sales Adviser, Janice McKellar. Only the bravest survived their grilling!
Although some regarded the whole excercise as a bit of fun, there were a number of skills called into use - imagination, team building, confidence and eadership to name a few.
