Residential Facility
for the Hansel Foundation, Symington

The Hansel Foundation is a charity which helps people with disabilities to have a future that is interesting, meaningful and fulfilling. They help service users to find work, build their own social lives and plan for their own futures. They support people where, when and how they need it.

Some service users live in small scale accommodation in locations throughout Ayrshire. However, some people are better served by living at Hansel's main location, Broadmeadows close to Symington. With this in mind, Hope Homes Scotland entered into a joint initiative with the Hansel Foundation, private trusts (including the Moffat Charitable Trust) and North Ayrshire Council to design and construct a brand new residential facility. Local architects, Robert Potters & Partners were employed to work along with Hansel and ourselves to come up with a unique, innovative design which would be an asset to the site.

The 300m2 house has now been completed, and the four residents have settled well in their bespoke new surroundings. Each of the residents has their own spacious, specifically designed bedroom, with access to a large, light and airy open plan lounge/kitchen. A small fifth bedroom ensures a family member can stay over, if required. There is also a sensory room where residents can enjoy activities that make life more satisfying and interesting.
